Meet Kane

Courtesy Post: Kane is not in IARN's care. He remains with his caregiver near Pullman, Washington, while Idaho Animal Rescue Network helps screen adoption applications.

Kane is an approximately eight-year-old, 102-pound German Shepherd. His exact birthdate is unknown; his caregiver reports that he was pulled from SpokAnimal in August 2025 after an owner surrender.

He is a laid-back boy who enjoys fetch and naps. He is good with children, cats, other dogs and strangers. He is house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained and respectful of fences. He can get pushy on leash when excited and whines during car rides, although he otherwise travels well.

Kane is moderately social and often prefers watching the action from the sidelines. When meeting new dogs, he can become overenthusiastic and mouthy at first, but responds very well to minimal correction. He has decent recall, does not jump on people, and is not destructive. His barking is moderate. Swimming and dog doors are unfamiliar or untested.

He does well at veterinary visits but dislikes nail trims.

What adopters should know

Health & Special Considerations

Kane is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Kane has a long-standing limp in his right front leg. His veterinarian evaluated it and believes it is related to an old injury that did not heal correctly. He bears weight on the leg, and his caregiver reports that the limp does not affect his quality of life. His new family should be mindful of his mobility, allow him to stay active at his own pace, and discuss any changes with their veterinarian.

Kane does well during veterinary visits but does not like having his nails handled.

The right match

Kane's Ideal Home

Kane would suit a relaxed household that enjoys a calm companion, some fetch, and plenty of downtime. He has lived successfully around dogs, cats, and children. He is moderately social and tends to watch from the sidelines rather than jump into every activity.

New dog introductions should be handled thoughtfully: Kane can get overly excited and mouthy initially, but responds well to minimal correction. He is house-trained, crate-trained, respects fences, and can be left outside without destructive behavior. His leash manners are good overall, though excitement can make him pushy; he rides well in the car but may whine.
