Let’s get them home.

Missing a pet or found an animal? Start with a local report, a clear photo, and the steps below.

Missing

Start your search.

  1. Report it locally. File a lost-pet report with local law enforcement using their non-emergency number. Contact your local shelter and update your microchip registry.
  2. Search nearby. Check hiding places and ask neighbors. Keep sightings calm; don’t chase.
  3. Share a clear photo. Include the date, city, cross streets, and a safe contact method.

Found

Help them get home.

  1. Keep everyone safe. Don’t approach a frightened or injured animal. Call the responsible local agency for help.
  2. Check for identification. Look for tags and ask a vet or shelter to scan for a microchip.
  3. Report and verify. File a found-pet report with local law enforcement using their non-emergency number and contact your local shelter. Share a photo and verify ownership before a reunion.

Contact your local shelter first. Online posts don’t replace a report. IARN is foster-based and cannot guarantee holding space. Call a veterinarian promptly for an injured animal.

Lost-pet scam alert

Never send money online.

Do not send money to someone online who claims they found your pet. Scammers may pretend to be a shelter or vet, or say your pet needs urgent care.

No deposits. No “release fees.” No payment to prove you’re the owner.

  • Ask for proof: current photos or video.
  • Verify the caller: call the organization’s official number.
  • Protect yourself: never share verification codes, banking details, or card information.
  • Wait before rewarding: only give a reward after your pet is safely back with you.
